To make sense of what is happening Barkha Dutt, a leading journalist and political commentator will provide her unique perspective.

Pramit Pal Chaudhuri, Head of the India Practice, Eurasia Group
National security and global geopolitics are in a state of turmoil that has not been seen for several decades. Europe and the Middle East are at war and there is a risk of this spreading. National security and energy supplies are therefore of real concern. Adding to the worry is the escalating rivalry between America and China. Rising nationalism is creating barriers to trade. Pramit Pal Chaudhuri will comment on these issues and their impact on business. He currently heads the India practice of the Eurasia group and was previously Foreign Editor of the Hindustan Times. Pramit has served two terms on the prime minister’s National Security Board.

Nothing is more important in the eradication of poverty than economic growth. For this to happen and filter down skilling and job creation are of overriding importance. In this session, Shridhar Krishna, Senior Scholar at The Takshashila Institution will provide a commentary on the challenges in skilling and strategies to overcome and enable the creation of 20 million jobs each year. This is an imperative not only for talent availability but also for economic growth.

From a personal investment perspective, it is critical to have a balanced portfolio. This is one where certain investment should seek growth opportunities whilst others provide a hedge against volatile market fluctuations. There are now several asset classes that private investors should consider. The most popular amongst these tend to be Equities across the spectrum from large cap to small cap investment. Then, there are Fixed Income securities of varying durations that come with different risks and returns. Finally, there are newer asset classes that include Real Estate Investment Trusts(REITs) and gold ETFs. In the session, our speaker will examine various assets classes and provide insights based on her experience over the years.

Col Sonam Wangchuk, Retired Colonel, Maha Vir Chakra
On the 30th of May 1999, Major Sonam Wangchuk led a column of the Ladakh scouts to occupy the ridge line on the LOC at a height of 18,500 feet. Following a sudden ambush and the loss of one of his men, Major Wangchuk led a daring counter-offensive. His actions were far and beyond the call of duty. For the display of exceptional valour, he was awarded the Maha Vir Chakra. This session will be an engagement with Colonel Wangchuk to determine what motivates men to fight for their cause, and if required, to make the ultimate sacrifice. Note: This will be hosted as a joint session, with spouses invited to participate

R Jagannathan’s session will examine the various political scenarios that may present themselves as an outcome of parliamentary elections. He will briefly examine the economic and social agendas of the two main blocs- NDA and INDIA. He will look at the implications on investment and trade and the policy framework. Jagannathan is the Editorial Director of Swarajya Magazine, previously he was editor in chief of Network 18 and Forbes India. He has held senior editorial positions in Financial Express and the Business Standard newspaper.
